Google Business Profile suspension types, causes and fixes
By Jorge Cermeño · Updated
Short answer
Google Business Profile problems come in six types: a suspended profile, a disabled profile, lost verification, an account restriction (often Routing ID DPNB), a restriction carried over from Google Ads, and a suspended manager. Each has a different notice, cause and fix, so identify the type before you appeal. You only get one appeal per decision.
All Google Business Profile suspension types at a glance
| Type | What you see | Cause | Fix | Typical time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Suspended profileAlso: hard suspension, deceptive content suspension | A suspension notice in Business Profile, and the profile stops showing on Maps and Search. | A guideline violation: keywords in the name, an ineligible address, the wrong category, or content Google reads as misleading. | Correct the profile, then file one appeal in the appeals tool with registration, license or utility documents. | 3 to 14 business days |
| Disabled profileAlso: removed profile | The profile is marked disabled. The public cannot reach it and owners and managers cannot act on it. | Google decided the business does not exist at the location you claim, or that the business is not eligible for a profile. | Appeal only if the business is eligible and real at that location, with proof that it operates there. | Varies by case |
| Verification lostAlso: soft suspension | The "Get verified" button is back on a profile that was verified, and you cannot edit it. | Google could not fully confirm the business, often after recent changes to the name, address or category. | Re-verify with the method Google offers, usually a video. This is not an appeal. | Up to 5 business days |
| Account restrictionAlso: Routing ID DPNB | Every profile on the Google Account is suspended at once, and you cannot create or claim new profiles. | A pattern of policy violations on the account, often across several profiles or linked to Ads activity. | Appeal the account restriction first, from your Google Account restrictions page. Then appeal each profile. | 3 to 6 weeks |
| Restriction from another Google productAlso: Google Ads or Local Services Ads suspension | Profiles go down after a Google Ads, Local Services Ads or other product account is suspended on the same login. | The profile was created with an account tied to another Google product, and that product account was restricted. | Reinstate the other product account first. Then appeal the Business Profile. | Varies by case |
| Suspended manager | One person loses access to the profiles they manage, while the profiles stay live for customers. | Google suspended that manager's Google Account. The locations themselves are not affected. | The owner removes and re-adds managers as needed, and the manager appeals their own account. | Varies by case |
Typical time uses Google's stated review window where Google publishes one (verification reviews take up to 5 business days). Otherwise it is the range we see in our own cases. Terms follow Google's help pages.
Suspended profileAlso called hard suspension, deceptive content suspension
Google suspends profiles that break the guidelines for representing your business. Most single-profile suspensions trace back to the name, the address or the category, or to an automated sweep that caught a legitimate business by mistake, as in the April 2026 wave.
How to recognize it
- The appeals tool lists a decision with a date, a reason and a link to the policy
- "Deceptive content" or "Misrepresentation" is a common reason in home service categories
- You can still sign in, but edits are rejected while the profile is suspended
How to fix it
- Do not create a new profile for the same business. Google treats that as evasion.
- Open the appeals tool and read the decision: date, reason and the policy linked.
- Fix what the policy points at before you appeal. Edits on a suspended profile may be rejected, so note what you will correct in the appeal text.
- Attach evidence with the same name and address as the profile: registration, license, tax certificate or a utility bill.
- Submit once. If it is denied, request an additional review with evidence you did not send the first time.
Typical time: 3 to 14 business days
Disabled profileAlso called removed profile
Google disables a profile when it determines the business does not exist where it claims, or when the business is ineligible: online-only businesses, lead generation companies, and services at a location you do not own or represent.
How to recognize it
- The status says disabled rather than suspended
- The profile no longer opens for the public at all
- Often follows user reports or a change of address
How to fix it
- Check eligibility first. Online-only and lead generation businesses cannot be reinstated.
- If you moved, do not edit the address on a location-based business. Google expects the old profile marked permanently closed and a new one at the new location.
- If the business is real at that address, appeal with documents tied to it: a utility bill, lease, signage photos and registration.
- If you serve customers at their location, convert to a service-area profile with the address hidden rather than defending an address customers never visit.
Typical time: Varies by case
Verification lostAlso called soft suspension
This is what owners usually mean by a soft suspension. Google reruns verification when it cannot completely verify a business or when key details change. Restricted categories such as garage door and locksmith see it more often.
How to recognize it
- The profile may still show publicly, but you lose the ability to edit it
- Google may ask for more information about details you recently changed
- No suspension notice and no decision in the appeals tool
How to fix it
- Select Get verified and use the method offered. You cannot pick a different one.
- For a video, plan the shot list first: your area, proof the business exists, proof you manage it.
- Do not change the name, address or category while the review is running.
- If the video is rejected, read the reasons and record a new one that repeats everything plus what was missing.
Typical time: Up to 5 business days · See the garage door verification guide
Account restrictionAlso called Routing ID DPNB
Google restricts the account itself when it sees a pattern of violations. The restriction suspends every profile on the account and blocks new ones. The May 2026 wave hit agencies and multi-location owners especially hard.
How to recognize it
- A notice that the account is restricted and the profiles you manage will be suspended
- The appeal form errors out, loops, or comes back denied within minutes
- Support or appeal screens show Routing ID: DPNB
How to fix it
- Do not open a new Google Account. It gets linked to the restricted one and suspended too.
- Appeal the account first, from myaccount.google.com/restrictions, and track it there.
- Once the account is reinstated, appeal each suspended profile in the appeals tool.
- If the account appeal is denied or will not submit, escalate through the Business Profile Help Community instead of appealing again.

Restriction from another Google productAlso called Google Ads or Local Services Ads suspension
Google's policy says that when a Business Profile was created with an account associated with another Google product, restricting that product account can suspend the profile. The Ads account has to be reinstated before the profile can be.
How to recognize it
- An Ads or Local Services Ads suspension email arrived before, or with, the profile suspension
- Content added from that account is rejected
- The Business Profile appeal goes nowhere while the other account stays restricted
How to fix it
- Find which product account is restricted: Google Ads, Local Services Ads or another service.
- Pause campaigns on that account and resolve its policy issue through that product's own appeal process.
- When it is reinstated, appeal the Business Profile with your usual evidence pack.
- Going forward, keep profile ownership on a clean account separate from experimental ad accounts.
Typical time: Varies by case
Suspended manager
When Google removes a manager's account, it suspends that manager on every profile they manage without touching the locations. Removing an owner's account is different: it takes down every location that owner holds.
How to recognize it
- The profile is still visible on Maps and Search
- Only one user, often an agency or former employee, has lost access
- Other owners and managers can still edit
How to fix it
- Confirm the profile is still live and who the primary owner is.
- Have the primary owner review the user list and remove the suspended manager if needed.
- The manager appeals their own Google Account. Access returns if it is reinstated.
- Keep primary ownership with the business, never with an agency or an employee's personal account.
Typical time: Varies by case
Suspension types: frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a suspended and a disabled Google Business Profile?
Google suspends a profile for a guideline violation, such as keywords in the name or an ineligible address. It disables a profile when it decides the business does not exist at the claimed location or is not eligible at all. Both can be appealed, but a disabled profile needs proof that the business really operates there.
What is a soft suspension on Google Business Profile?
Owners use the term for a profile that lost its verification: the Get verified button comes back and you cannot edit. It is not a suspension in Google's terms and there is no appeal. You fix it by verifying again, usually with a video.
How many times can I appeal a Google Business Profile suspension?
Once per decision. If the appeal is denied, Google may allow an additional review where you can add evidence you did not include the first time. Sending the same appeal again does not help.
Should I create a new profile if mine is suspended?
No. Google tells owners not to create a new profile for the same business. A new profile, or a new Google Account after an account restriction, usually gets linked to the old one and suspended as well.
