How to verify a garage door business on Google Business Profile
By Jorge Cermeño · Updated
Short answer
Google verifies garage door companies like any service business, but reviews them harder because the category has a long history of fake listings. Expect video verification: one continuous recording showing your area, your branded vehicle or tools, and proof you run the business. Matching license, registration and utility documents keep the profile from being suspended later.
What Google checks before it verifies a garage door business
Garage door repair is one of the categories Google treats as high risk. Lead generators have filled it with fake listings for years, so Google Ads puts garage door services through advanced verification before they can advertise, and Business Profile reviews new and edited profiles in the category more closely. Garage door companies were among the hardest hit in the April and May 2026 suspension waves.
You serve customers in person
Google only lists businesses that make in-person contact with customers during their stated hours. A garage door company qualifies as a service-area business, because you travel to the customer.
A real base of operations
Your address must be where you actually run the business. Virtual offices, PO boxes and coworking desks without staff and signage are not eligible. If customers do not come to you, hide the address and set a service area of no more than about 2 hours of driving.
Your real-world business name
The name on Google must match your truck lettering, invoices and state registration. Adding words such as "Garage Door Repair Los Angeles" to the name is one of the most common suspension triggers.
A phone number you control
A local number that rings your business. Not a call center, a lead-generation line or a forwarding number that sends callers to someone else.
Proof on video
Google decides which verification methods a profile gets, and they cannot be changed. For garage door companies it is usually a video recording, sometimes a live video call.
Documents that agree with each other
If Google asks for more, or you later need to appeal, your registration, license and utility bill must show the same name and address as the profile.
The verification video, shot by shot
Google's video rules require three things on camera: where you operate, proof the business exists, and proof that you manage it. Plan the shots before you press record, because the recording has to be done in one take.
Where you operate
- Street signs, building numbers or landmarks near your base address
- If you run the business from home, signs and landmarks in your immediate neighborhood (Google allows this)
Proof the business exists
- Your truck or van with the business name clearly visible
- Tools of the trade: winding bars, replacement springs, openers, rollers and cables
- Business cards, branded uniforms or a branded invoice
Proof you manage it
- Unlocking and opening your branded vehicle on camera
- A business permit, license, invoice or utility bill showing the profile name
- Your parts storage or workshop, somewhere only staff can get into
Google's recording rules
- One live, unedited recording with no breaks, at least 30 seconds long
- Recorded and uploaded from your phone through your Business Profile, not filmed earlier
- No bank, tax or ID numbers, no private information, and no other people's faces
Documents to prepare
Google does not always ask for documents to verify. You will need them if it asks for more information, and for any appeal later. Every document should show the same name and address as the profile.
State business registration
Articles of organization, or a fictitious business name (DBA) filing, with the exact name on your profile.
Contractor license, where your state requires one
Some states license door installation contractors. California does it through the Contractors State License Board (CSLB), for example.
Utility bill or bank statement
Electricity, phone, water or internet bill for the business, with the same name and address. Google lists utility bills as appeal evidence.
Business license or tax certificate
A city or county business license, or a state seller's permit if you sell parts and openers.
Proof of insurance
A general liability certificate in the business name. Google does not ask for it directly, but it helps show the business is real when a case is escalated.
Your own photos
Truck, signage, workshop and finished jobs. Stock photos weaken a case.
How long garage door verification takes
| Step | Typical time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Profile set up and checked against Google's guidelines | 1 to 3 days | Our process: name, category, service area, hours and phone. |
| Verification video recorded and uploaded | Same day | Planned first, so it shows everything Google asks for in one take. |
| Google reviews the video | Up to 5 business days | Google's stated window. On rare occasions it takes longer. |
| Video rejected, new video submitted | Up to 5 more business days | Google lists what was missing. The new video must repeat everything from the first one. |
| Garage door profile suspended after going live, appeal filed | 3 to 14 business days | Typical single-profile appeal in our cases. |
End to end, with setup, verification and monitoring after launch, our restricted-industry package takes 3 to 6 weeks.
What can go wrong, and how to avoid it
The video is rejected
Google's own examples: business name not visible, no nearby area shown, no proof that you run the business. Record again and include everything from the first video plus what was missing.
The address is not eligible
Virtual offices, mailbox stores and unstaffed coworking desks get rejected or suspended. Use the real base of operations, or hide the address and list a service area.
Keywords in the business name
Service words and city names that are not part of the registered name break Google's naming rules and are a fast route to a suspension.
A duplicate listing already exists
An old profile, or one a lead generator created with your name, blocks or splits verification. Claim or remove it instead of creating another one.
Suspended days after going live
Common in this category. Changing the name, address or category right after verification can trigger a new review. Leave those fields alone for the first weeks unless something is wrong.
No verification option appears
Google picks the methods and you cannot change them. Try every option shown first; if none work, contact Google Business Profile support.

Garage door verification: frequently asked questions
Do garage door companies need video verification on Google?
Usually. Google picks the verification method for each profile and you cannot change it. For garage door companies it is most often a video recording, sometimes a live video call. Phone, text and email codes are less common in this category.
Can I verify a garage door business without a storefront?
Yes. Most garage door companies are service-area businesses. Hide the address, set a service area, and record street signs or landmarks near where you are based. Google allows home-based businesses to film their immediate neighborhood.
How long does Google Business Profile verification take for a garage door company?
Google reviews a verification video in up to 5 business days. If the video is rejected, a new one starts another review. With setup, a possible re-record and monitoring after launch, our restricted-industry package takes 3 to 6 weeks.
Why was my garage door profile suspended right after verification?
Garage door is a high-risk category, so Google keeps reviewing profiles after they go live. The usual causes are keywords in the name, an ineligible address, a duplicate listing, or edits made right after verification. Fix the cause first, then file one appeal with matching documents.
Do I need a contractor license to verify a garage door business?
Google does not ask for a license to verify by video. But if your state licenses door installers, a profile without one is hard to defend, because a license is one of the strongest documents you can attach to an appeal.
How much does it cost to have JCerme verify a garage door profile?
$1,000 one time if you or someone on your team can be at the business location for the video step, or $1,500 if you cannot and our team manages the whole process. Both include full profile optimization and take 3 to 6 weeks.
Verified, then suspended?
Restricted categories are suspended more often than any other. Our appeal service diagnoses the cause, fixes the profile, builds the evidence pack and escalates when the first appeal fails. Free case review before you pay.
